FREE HOME WORKOUT RESOURCES: QUARANTINE EDITION

You know that phrase, “A tired dog is a good dog?” I never realized how much that applied to me until this quarantine thing hit. And I’m not talking about Speedy. I notice that on the days I spend time exercising–somewhat of a feat in a small one bedroom apartment–I’m more relaxed. My mood is also significantly better than it is on the days I don’t workout. I’m usually someone who goes to the gym, but I’ve found some free home workout resources that have been incredibly helpful, and wanted to share my favorites with you.

MY FAVORITE FREE HOME WORKOUT RESOURCES

  1. Fitness professional Eiryn Hernandez of @travelingsoulll has been a serious go-to for me. She’s been going live on Instagram to share strength workouts 2-3 times per week. She’s great about finding creative ways to get your sweat on without equipment.
  2. The infectiously energetic Mark Kanemura of @mkik808 does live virtual dance parties on Instagram. People from around the country join. It’s a positive moment you feel like you’re actually experiencing with other people.
  3. Pilates instructor Lauren Chiarello of @chichilifenyc is a great low-impact option for increasing strength and flexibility. Her energy is very calming, and her workouts are a quick 30 minutes. She’s been going live 3 times a week.
  4. Jessa Messina of Yojoyoga has been doing weekly yoga flows on Zoom. She’s great at helping quiet the mind as well as releasing tension in the body. DM her your email on her Instagram here, and she’ll add you to the list of people she sends out an email to. She typically holds her classes on Thursday evenings.
  5. Fitness apparel company Sweaty Betty (@sweatybetty) has been tapping its global ambassadors and fitness instructors to create a variety of workout videos on IGTV. There’s everything from a 20 minute barre bootcamp to HIIT workouts.
  6. PopSugar Fitness’ Youtube channel is a godsend. It has a ton of workout videos, and has been a resource for me even before we were quarantined. The videos are a quick 30-45 minutes. My favorites so far have been this No-Equipment Abs & Butt Toning workout, this No-Equipment HIIT & Cardio workout, and this Body Weight workout.
  7. My personal trainer Jason Omilig has been putting together short videos on his Instagram feed (@feel_strong_method). He shows great neighbor-friendly circuits you can do at home.
  8. I put together this leg day with cardio bursts video on IGTV this week that includes moves I’ve learned from my trainer in the past as well as some from @travelingsoulll.
