BREEZY SUMMER OUTFITS + OUR LONG HOLIDAY WEEKEND

Hello, hello! I don’t know what the weather is like where you’re at, but here in NYC it’s blazing. Muggy. Hard to not walk outside for 10 minutes without your body throwing on a layer of glistening sweat. I picked up a few things last week to put a little oomph into my summer wardrobe. Things that are lightweight and airy enough to feel cute in this sauna-like environment.

Rich took a long weekend for the holiday, and although we weren’t able to escape the city like most people do over the 4th of July weekend, it was a weekend well spent. Here’s what we got up to and some breezy summer weekend outfits I wore with the few things I picked up.

We went to our favorite coffee shop where the cold brew beats no other every morning, and hung outside with Speedy. Pinkies up!

I made this herb-packed omelette and a creamy topping with garlic scapes we got at the farmers market. This is gonna be on repeat, and I plan on making it for brunch/breakfast when we visit Lake Placid later in the month with friends. Recipe is here.

We went to the beach. Twice. Once in the evening, and another time in the morning, staying for several hours just reading and enjoying the fresh ocean breeze.

I wore this lightweight, incredibly comfortable yellow dress several times over the long weekend, including to the beach. I got a lot of compliments on it. Nothing like a standout color.

I’m not really one for themed outfits around holidays, but I gave a subtle nod to the red & and blue motif with this outfit. A red lip, white skirt, and a pop of blue in my sandals and AndieandErin blue marbled necktie (which I wore as a headband).

That evening, with stomachs full of the delicious burgers Rich made, we snuck up onto our building’s roof to watch the big Macy’s fireworks show. I’m not about that struggle life of waiting in a crowd for hours without access to a bathroom. We actually ended up missing most of that show because several of our neighbors had apparently spent an insane amount of money on their own arsenal of fireworks, which they shot off from mere blocks away. Other than seeing the Macy’s show from an airplane last year as we landed back into NYC from L.A., I’d say it was one of the most fun July 4th firework experiences I’ve had.

We finished out the weekend by going to see Midsommar, which was absolutely terrifying. If you love arthouse horror films, this is for you. If you have anxiety, like I do, not for you AT ALL. We decompressed with wings afterwards. Wings have a very soothing quality about them. LOL

I wore this fun outfit, repurposing the skirt from the day before. Don’t be fooled by the long sleeves. This top is actually linen, which breathes, and protects your skin from the sun. You feel less hot because the sun isn’t directly hitting you. We managed to get this shot during golden hour, which I’m obsessed with in two ways–actual golden hour, and Kacey Musgraves’ most recent album, titled just that.

Hope you all had a lovely holiday and are enjoying your summer!
