MY 5 MINUTE EVERYDAY NATURAL MAKEUP ROUTINE

To me, there’s a time to go all out with a major makeup look (i.e. special events or on days that I’m feeling particularly creative), but when it comes to my every day natural look, my routine must follow two rules.

1) It needs to come together in five minutes or less.

2) It needs to have maximum impact–meaning it highlights my favorite aspects of my face and makes me feel great.

When I was younger and working as a makeup artist at Estee Lauder, Lancome, and Sephora over the years, I loved spending a good thirty minutes to an hour on my makeup, but as a woman focused on my career and building a business, I just don’t have the time to languidly apply shade upon shade of eyeshadow. That doesn’t mean I don’t like to look polished and pulled together, though. I’ve developed a tried and true look that I can honestly get onto my face in three minutes on a good day and five minutes on a day when I’m not caffeinated enough yet. Here’s what I use for products to complete my 5 minute natural makeup routine. I also posted a video on IGTV today that shows how I apply all of these products and the complete look. You can check it out here.

5 MINUTE NATURAL MAKEUP ROUTINE

1: PRIMER WITH SPF

I apply a pump of Almay Smart Shade Luminous CC Primer with SPF 15 all over my face with my hands. SPF is something I wear every single day whether it’s sunny or cloudy. It’s really important for skin health.

2: BB CREAM

I apply a pea-sized amount of Purlisse BB Tinted Moist Cream on key areas of my face, and using a beauty blender, I blend all over my face with soft blotting motions. This BB Cream is honestly the best! I’ve been using it for over a year. I love it because a little goes a long way and it offers just enough coverage without looking fake. It blends seamlessly into my skin.

3: CONCEALER

I use Revlon Youth FX Fill + Blur Concealer (Shade: Fair) for areas that need brightened or a little more coverage. I swipe it under my eyes, along the bridge and outer corners of my nose, on the center of my chin, in the outer corners of my mouth, and on the middle of my forehead. I then use the beauty blender to blend everything in.

4: BROWS

While I let the BB Cream set, I do either one of two things to my brows, depending on my mood. If I want a sharper look, I use NYX Micro Brow Pencil (Shade: Auburn), and fill in my brows using small strokes to mimic the real hair. If I want a fuller, softer look, I use NYX Tinted Brow Mascara (Shade: Brunette), using upwards swiping motions along my brows.

4: BRONZER

Using a fluffy angled bronzer brush, I apply Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer (Shade: Milk Chocolate) in the hollows of my cheeks, on the top of my forehead, on the bridge of my nose, on my chin, in the creases of my eyelids, and along my jawline. This adds both structure to my face, as well as gives me a sun kissed look. As a person with fair skin, this has been my go-to bronzer for years. The shade isn’t too orange or brown, and it’s matte, so it looks incredibly natural. It’s also made with cocoa powder, so it smells delicious.

5: CREAM BLUSH

Ever since I discovered Glossier’s Cloud Paint, it’s been a game changer for me. It gives the most beautiful natural flush that never looks clownish. And the texture just melts into your skin. I use the Dawn shade, but I’m thinking about getting a few more colors, too. I dab the tiniest amount between my index fingers and pat onto my cheeks from the apples up toward my cheekbones.

6: MASCARA

I have eyelash extensions (check out my post about what it’s like to get them here), so I don’t put mascara on my top lashes, but I use Maybelline’s Lash Discovery on my bottom lashes. I love that the brush is small and precise.

7: HIGHLIGHTER

Depending on the amount of glow I’m going for, I’ll use one of two products. For a more natural glow, I use the stick side of the Almay Instant Glow Highlighting Duo. For a more intense highlight, I’ll use Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops (Shade: Candlelight). I apply the highlighter on the tops of my cheekbones, close to my temples in a backwards ‘C’ shape, along the bridge of my nose, on my brow bones, and in the cupid’s bow of my upper lip. I blend this in with my fingers.

8: LIPSTICK OR GLOSS

Depending on if I want to do a bright lip or a more natural one, I’ll go between Fempower Beauty’s Eve, Serpent, Lilith, and Adam shades.
