MY NEW POWER ACCESSORY: NECKTIES

There’s something to be said about putting on a piece of clothing that makes you instantly feel powerful. Like you just might be able to actually conquer it all. Lately for me, that’s been neckties. But I’m not just reaching into Rich’s closet for one. These neckties are made for me, and they make me feel like a badass boss when I wear them.

It’s not just me, though. Some pretty amazing women have donned the necktie as a power move that defies gender roles. Marlene Dietrich, Brigette Bardot, Julia Roberts, Beyonce…I could go on, but Queen Bey seems like a good stopping point.

I recently met a woman at a We Are Women Owned event who co-founded a company called andieanderin, and thus began my obsession with the women’s necktie. The company, which is run by two women who have been friends for years, specializes in making beautiful neckties inspired by influential women of the past and present. There’s even one inspired by Beyonce! I love that they work for both casual and formal looks, and they’ve become an ultimate power accessory for me. Big meeting? I put one on, and I’m ready to crush it. I’ve also been wearing the silkier ties to holiday parties.

Here are two outfits I’ve accessorized with the neckties, one casual & one dressier (perfect for NYE!). Here’s to inspiring you and other women to defy those gender norms!

P.S. I’m also doing a GIVEAWAY of a necktie of your choice for you and a friend on Instagram! Giveaway ends 12/19. You can check it out here.

NIGHT OUT

I love this outfit because of all of the different textures. Leather, sparkling sequins, and a silky necktie. It’s sexy, but sexy like a boss. This necktie is called Stone Stories, and is inspired by designer & architect Maya Lin.

CASUAL

I love that this outfit plays with both masculine and feminine tropes, and again, combines lots of different textures. Plus it’s both stylish and warm, something we all need in an outfit during the coldest months of winter. This necktie is called High Flier, and is inspired by Amelia Earheart. It works especially well with a collared shirt.
