10 WAYS YOU CAN EMPOWER WOMEN FOR #GIVINGTUESDAY

So we did that whole Black Friday/Cyber Monday thing, but today is much more important than either of those. Today is #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. One thing I truly believe in is the power of women helping women. When we come together, we’re stronger than the hurdles we have to clear in life. That’s why I’ve taken a little break from holiday content to share amazing and impactful ways you can help empower women for #GivingTuesday, many of which aren’t just straight up handing over money (if you’re broke like I am right now).

I’ve researched organizations that empower women and put my favorites below. Because at You Must Love Life, I’m all about empowering women to feel and be their very best. ALL WOMEN. I’m really interested in volunteering at the In Her Shoes summit & Bottomless Closet because it’s based in NYC, but you can help any of these nonprofits no matter where you’re from.

IN HER SHOES

What would you do if you were 1% more courageous? In Her Shoes, a nonprofit that empowers young women, bases everything they do around this question. They work with high school women to open up conversations about what’s possible for them, empowering them to be courageous leaders of their life. They even give scholarships to young women looking to pursue higher education.

WOMEN BUILD

Women Build is a part of Habitat for Humanity, where women come together to build housing for communities in need. The goal is to empower women to help families build strength, stability and independence. They also provide opportunities for hands-on learning so women can succeed in changing their communities.

BOTTOMLESS CLOSET

Bottomless Closet serves economically disadvantaged New York City women who are in need of assistance in getting a job. They work to break down barriers women face when searching for a job or career, as well as provide ongoing support, tools and education from women to succeed in their professional lives. Its mission is to help women enter the workforce, build core competencies for workplace success, increase self-confidence and self-esteem, and transform women’s vision of their potential.

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED:

DOMESTIC SHELTERS

Did you know that 1 in 4 women will experience domestic abuse in her lifetime? DomesticShelters.org is the largest online and mobile searchable directory of domestic violence programs and shelters in the U.S. and Canada. It’s also a leading source of helpful tools for people experiencing domestic violence. What’s amazing is that you can search for local shelters in need on this site, see what items the shelters need (things like diapers, car seats, cleaning/cooking supplies, clothing), and purchase them for the shelter straight from the website.
