4 WAYS TO DONATE TO HURRICANE HARVEY VICTIMS THAT TAKE 5 MINUTES OR LESS

It seems like right now just isn’t the right time to recommend my favorite hair products or fall outfits to you. It seems like right now the right thing to do is spread the word about how to get relief to/ how to donate to Hurricane Harvey victims.

Regardless of political views and all the other bullshit we’re dealing with right now, there are people in our country who need help immediately, and if you have the ability to do it, I strongly urge you donate to one of the reputable, trustworthy organizations below. I’ve donated to the first already, and plan to donate to one every day this week. Even if you’re tight on money (I get it, we have rent to pay), maybe consider holding off on that afternoon latte or takeout lunch today and giving that $4-$10 towards someone who needs basic amenities.

I believe in the good of the world, and giving back is what makes us human. So take 2 minutes out of your day. You won’t regret it.

HURRICANE HARVEY RELIEF FUND

After receiving a ton of inquiries on where to donate, Houston’s mayor Sylvester Turner has set up this fund through the Greater Houston Community Foundation. All donations go toward providing flood relief to victims and the city itself.

HOUSTON FOOD BANK

When people are displaced, one of the first things they need is food. $1 donated to this organization provides 3 meals to anyone in Houston who’s in need of food. Once all this year’s disaster relief and recovery needs have been met, any remaining donations will be used to fund ongoing hunger-relief efforts.

HOUSTON HUMANE SOCIETY

Harvey has displaced hundreds of pets, leaving them with no home or owners to care for them. The Houston Humane Society, which receives no funding from the city, helps care for and give shelter to these sweet little animals. (If this picture of a rescued dachshund from the floods doesn’t do it for you, I don’t know what will.)
